thisgentlemanbastard: an-ordinary-motorist: serveitindrag: Fact: If you have to explain that this tool you’re advocating people use on their dog is not actually as barbaric as it looks, that is a tool you should not use.  It’s always funny when every force trainer justifies prongs by starting with, “I know it looks like a torture device, BUT ACTUALLY…” Oh, you’re concerned that metal spikes digging into your dog’s neck is too harsh? Well, aren’t you a tree-hugging hippy. HERE, LET  ME EXPLAIN WHY YOU ARE JUST ONE BIG SISSY AND PRONGS ARE ACTUALLY MADE OF RAINBOWS AND UNICORN FARTS.  Sigh.  They don’t fucking hurt, but they are definitely are a crutch. They don’t fucking hurt? So the dogs who respond to them respond to what exactly? A tickle feeling? The working dogs who cringe, cry, and wince are doing it because… they don’t like to be tickled? 1. You do not decide what hurts for someone else. Ever. 2. If they did not hurt, they would not work. It is what they are designed to do. We have this type of collar for our dog. I didn’t agree with it when my mom first got it for our dog, and I’m still not a huge fan. I think she got it as a “just in case” kind of thing, although idk what that casewould be. Thing is, we don’t use this for training; it’s just her walking collar. We’ve never yanked on it or tightened it to where it’s uncomfortable (it’s actually so loose we can slip it easily over her head). She gets extremely excited (that’s an understatement, actually, haha) when we pull it out because it just means we’re going for a walk. She doesn’t associate it with anything negative and, when on the walk, she pulls right on forward (even pulling me sometimes) as if it doesn’t bother her, even though it might. But, if it did, I think she’d stop pulling me. I doubt the fact that she’s a Rottweiler makes any difference, but I’m just saying. I don’t agree with the collar, but my dog doesn’t seem to mind it.
